Charging stations [MODE 3]
Charging station for electric vehicles
Scame charging stations use charging Mode 3 according to IEC/EN 61851-1.
Charging Mode 3 consists of connecting the vehicle to the AC power supply using specific connectors, and the presence of a circuit control inside the station to check the continuity of the protective conductor between the vehicle and the grid during charging.
This control is necessary to ensure the correct operation of the protections against indirect contacts preventing any dangerous voltage that could be discharged through accidental contact with unaware people. It is compulsory in general for vehicles with power greater than 3 kW and, in Italy, for public or private environments open to third parties (see table).
The control circuit also provides communication between the station and the vehicle (PWM circuit) and to identify the cable size (Resistor Coding).
