logo What is NSAI?
It's the Irish national agency in charge of standardization since 1996 in the interest of the government on behalf of the Ministry of Industry and Labour .

It deals with technical standardization , public national standards and conducts product certification and quality systems .
The direction of NSAI is appointed by the Government , representatives of different industry categories.
The activities of NSAI take place in two distinct areas : development and application of the rules , including certification and international agreements .

International cooperations

The NSAI represents the Irish interests in international bodies in the process of harmonization of EU and global standards :

  • ISO - International Organization for Standardization
  • IEC - International Electrotechnical Commission
  • CEN - European Committee for Standardization
  • CENELEC - European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization
  • EQNet - The European Network for Quality System Assessment and Certification
  • IQNet - The International Network for Quality System Assessment and Certification

    NSAI cooperates also with:

    • IMQ - Istituto Italiano del Marchio di Qualità
    • ETCI - Electro-Technical Council of Ireland

    EN Standards

    The approved standards within the EU and EFTA countries are introduced in the individual member countries by the national institutions in charge.

    In Ireland, NSAI provides national standards to adapt to the standards of the European Community , revoking or modifying conflicting national standards with European Standards ( EN ) .

    HD documents

    When a law is not applicable in all EU member states and EFTA , CEN / CENELEC harmonization documents produced , however , with the aim of as close as possible to those European standards .
    NSAI is concerned , in these cases , to modify or produce national legislation complies with the Harmonization Documents (HD Harmonization Document)
