International Electrotechnical Commission
 Chi è l' IEC?
L'IEC (Commissione Elettrotecnica Internazionale), fondata nel 1906, è l'organismo normatore su scala mondiale nel campo elettrico ed elettrotecnico e prepara le Norme Tecniche che vengono adottate nei paesi maggiormente industrializzati (vi aderiscono circa 60 nazioni).

Per i lavori di standardizzazione in sede internazionale, IEC procede parallelemente con altri enti di pari grado:
- ISO - International Organization for Standardization
- ITU - International Telecommunication Union
e collabora con le seguenti organizzazioni internazionali:
- WHO/OMS - World Health Organization/Organizzazione Mondiale della Sanità
- ILO - International Labour Organization

Uno dei principali partner dell'IEC è il:

Insieme, IEC e WTO, svolgono un ruolo fondamentale per lo sviluppo del commercio internazionale, per il progresso della sicurezza, il miglioramento della salute e la tutela dell'ambiente a livello mondiale.

Standardizzazione globale
Le norme redatte dall'IEC sono documenti con dettagliate specifiche tecniche, adottate di comune accordo in tutto il mondo fra i paesi membri, quali guide per la realizzazione di prodotti, scelta di materiali, processi o servizi a livello internazionale nel settore elettrotecnico con l'intento comune di migliorare la qualità della vita.
Le Norme IEC, redatte in lingua inglese e francese, anticipano le norme CEI che, generalmente, ne sono la traduzione in italiano con alcune modifiche.
