CE MARKING

As of from 1 January 1996 for products covered by EEC Guideline 89/336 (Electromagnetic compatibility) and from 1 January 1997, according to Law 18 of October 1997 number 791 for products covered by the EEC directive 73/23, better known as the Low Voltage directive, these products must carry the administrative marking CE.

The CE mark, indispensable for the free circulation of products within the European Community, must be put on the product itself or, if that isn’t possible, on its packaging or its instruction leaflet. The mark is a declaration that the product conforms to the EEC directive of reference and it is issued by the manufacturer.

Products with the CE mark are not required to undergo testing by a third party and therefore this mark should not be confused with the voluntary certifications issued by third party institutions (IMQ, VDE etc.) that require testing both before the mark is granted and after the product is marketed.
